New Thermal Desorption and Dynamic Headspace systems

01 Aug 2020

At RPS, we understand the need to regularly update our equipment to ensure we continue to deliver high levels of accuracy and quality analysis for our clients and their products.

Recently we installed new equipment at our Bedford Laboratory that delivers improved thermal desorption and dynamic headspace analysis solutions. This new technology will enable us to analyse air samples & gases from Tedlar bags, standard sampling tubes and stainless steel thermal desorption tubes. It will also enable the direct desorption and extraction of volatiles from products with dynamic concentration of the headspace components thus expanding the range and sensitivity of our volatile organic compound suites.

The advantage of dynamic headspace systems is the ability to increase the detection limits for volatile components considerably over standard headspace methods, which is vital where trace detection of contaminants is required. In addition, the system is equipped with automated tube spiking and addition of internal standards and surrogates which significantly increases precision.

Our tube conditioning system is set-up to prepare multiple tubes to any required heat/temperature and flow programme prescribed, whilst being flushed with inert gas enabling consistent media production for our clients in line with published standard methods.

We can analyse:

  • Standard 3.5mm stainless thermal desorption tubes
  • Glass air sampling tubes
  • Tedlar bags
  • Solid and liquid samples by headspace, dynamic headspace and direct thermal desorption
