N59 Moycullen Bypass Shortlisted for Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards

We are delighted to announce that the N59 Moycullen Bypass project has been shortlisted in the Engineering Design Excellence category of the upcoming Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards.

 
Our team provided multidisciplinary engineering consultancy services on this 4.3km Type 1 single carriageway bypass of Moycullen village, including detailed design, advanced and main works contracts procurement, construction supervision, contract administration and Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) for the scheme on behalf of Galway County Council.

Key elements of the scheme include:

• 2 at-grade roundabouts on the N59
• 8 bridge structures (road, river, canal and underpasses)
• 3.5km of local road improvements/realignments
• 1.7km farm/accommodation roads

The key objective of the project was to address traffic congestion in Moycullen village which led to community severance, noise and emissions, and reduced road safety for all users.

The opening of the bypass has significantly improved pedestrian and cyclist safety in Moycullen village. Counts taken following the bypass opening show over 60% reduction in traffic on the western approach and an over 40% reduction in traffic volumes on the eastern approach with an even greater heavy goods vehicle reduction.

The success of the N59 Moycullen Bypass embodies the principles of excellent teamwork and is testament to the committed efforts throughout its delivery.
