Cheshire-based geological consultancy Ichron Ltd joined RPS at the end of September. Founded in 1995, the company has offices and a laboratory in Northwich, close to Manchester. All 50 staff members have joined RPS, including the four original founders, who are well-respected experts in their fields.
Working mainly in NW Europe, India and the Caribbean region, Ichron specialises in core description, depositional modelling, palynology, micropalaeontology and nannofossil analyses. Their integrated services include reservoir characterisation, wellsite data analyses and the production of multi-client geological reports. Ichron also offers field courses and training to clients looking for outcrop analogues to their operated reservoirs.
Recent projects have included the detailed analysis and interpretation of geological data from wells around the Atlantic Ocean, including the UK and Norwegian North Sea, Barents Sea, Falkland Islands, offshore Brazil and Trinidad & Tobago.
The acquisition of Ichrons’ world class specialist geological expertise adds to RPS’ already well established capabilities in oil & gas subsurface consultancy and training, and provides a platform for further growth.
Nick Holmes, one of the directors of the company, is shown with their “gate guardian” the fossilised skull of a juvenile T. rex. Fortunately, most of the fossils with which they work on a day to day basis are several orders of magnitude smaller.
