Health and safety compliance: virtual training for your employees
03 March 2021 | 2 min read
The word ‘competent’ is widely used in the world of health and safety but what does that really mean?
Competence and training are broadly included in all health and safety legislation and are critical in ensuring that your business is legally compliant. Risks must be identified, assessed and reduced to the lowest possible level. But if this is carried out by someone who lacks formal training, and is not ‘competent’ to write it, it won’t be considered fit for purpose.
As an employer, you must make sure everyone in your organisation is clear on the part they must play in keeping people safe. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 places responsibility on employers to ensure they provide employees with training and information for the tasks they expect them to carry out in the workplace. This can be as diverse as an office environment, manufacturing facility, logistics and warehousing, or events and exhibitions to name a few.
To ensure your employees are suitably trained with the necessary skills to identify hazards and risks within your workplace, we offer IOSH Managing Safely or Working Safely courses for your employees.
Managing safely
For employees who manage or supervise people and risk in the workplace

This is a one-day course to provide employees with a thorough understanding of their health and safety responsibilities.
It also broadens their knowledge to allow them to support health and safety initiatives and help you develop a positive health and safety culture. This course is also run virtually to allow study from home or the workplace and has a maximum of 20 delegates per course. The course content includes:
- Introducing working safely
- Defining hazard and risk
- Identifying common hazards
