A group of 21 graduates from our Galway, Dublin and Cork offices recently visited our Kerdiffstown Park Project as part of our in-house graduate training programme. Joined by our client, Kildare County Council, the contractor, Wills Bros. Ltd, and the RPS team, our graduates took part in an escorted walkover of the site to see the works first-hand, which are anticipated to complete in 2023.
Guided by our site supervision team, Cormac Bradley - Construction Manager, Ronald Whyte - Resident Engineer, and Luke Murphy - Project Engineer, our graduates learned about the history of the 30-hectare site, the need and scope of the remediation works, and the final configuration of the project. Located in Naas, the site will be a recreational facility that will include playing pitches and a playground to provide the people of Kildare with valuable leisure amenities.
We highlighted the challenges of the project, including the ongoing management of the landfill operation and monitoring for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance, as well as the importance of local community engagement. The day finished with a lunch provided by Wills Bros. Ltd.
RPS carried out the detailed design, tender process, contractor procurement, contract administration and site supervision services at Kerdiffstown, which included several advance contracts road improvement, surface water works, and archaeology. The design has been a collaborative effort from our teams in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Belfast. Covering many specialist disciplines, our works included landfill engineering, drainage, road design, landscape design, mechanical and electrical engineering, structures, geotechnics and environmental and ecology services
This visit was particularly valuable for our graduates post-Covid lockdowns, who have provided positive feedback from the day. It was hugely beneficial for them to experience an operational construction site and meet face-to-face with colleagues from our other RPS offices.
“It was a great opportunity to meet the other graduates in the programme as for many of us this was our first chance to do so. Highly enjoyed the day and meeting the senior members of the teams involved with the project.” – Graduate, Luke Kehoe Roche.
