Construction Industry Skills Shortage Impacts Go Beyond Recruitment
04 January 2018 | 1 min read
As contractors and consultants face a serious lack of skilled personnel, it is important for the industry to identify the key focus areas and implement an effective plan for the long-term to answer the challenge.
‘Building a Future’ was the theme of the recent construction industry discussion at the Midlands Insider Round Table Event in the UK where RPS was ably represented by Senior Project Manager Kuli Bajwa MRICS MAPM. Chartered Building Surveyor Kuli joined RPS in 2015 and is particularly interested in exploring more ways that we can attract new talent to RPS with sustainable career development plans.
Key issues raised during the discussion not only examined possible cause but included the question of investing in the career development of new recruits to the industry against the option of seeking to attract fully qualified professionals to your business from other firms; responding to client requirements within an industry where design development and technique is evolving into new horizons; and sustaining effective cost management in an expensive market.
