Explosives and chemical weapons

RPS laboratories provide explosive residue analysis across a wide range of matrices, including soils, sludges, waters, swabs, building materials, tubes and filters. This service is supported by our in-house team of explosives and unexploded ordnance (UXO) experts, consultants and planners. RPS supports the decommissioning and remediation of explosives contaminated land and buildings along with UKAS and MCERTS accredited licensed laboratory facilities.

Risk based assessments

More emphasis is being placed on lower detection limits and faster response times as legislation and risk based assessments drive the requirement to test for explosive residues in support of new planning and remediation projects. 

RPS tailor the analysis package to meet our client’s requirements - from on-site clearance through to final validation testing using state-of-the-art instrumentation and analytical techniques.

Soils and plant material can be brought in for analysis from outside the European Union using our FERA plant health licence.

We are licenced to acquire and keep explosives and can analyse a variety of related explosive products including precursors, stabilizers, taggants and degradation products.

Chemical weapon residues

Although chemical weapons are no longer used and are now regulated under the Chemical Weapons Convention, they are still found in former manufacturing, storage and disposal facilities. And each year incidents where people have been exposed to these chemicals through contact with buried or sea dredged ammunition are reported as a result of WWI/WWII disposal activities. These chemicals can cause severe burns and blisters and are known carcinogens.

RPS offers screening for other chemical agents and related chemicals in soil, water, swabs and a variety of other  materials. Our laboratories provide rapid analysis of materials suspected of containing blister agents and their breakdown products including:
