As an independent supplier of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) services, RPS can conduct expert qualitative Face Fit Testing (QLFT) training for individuals and organisations of all levels.
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations put forth by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) aim to protect against the risk of hazardous substances in the workplace. They state that any workers using tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) are required to be fit-tested by a competent person.
The HSE document INDG479 states that to be competent, a fit test operator must have gained and received adequate knowledge, instruction and training in RPE.
At RPS we offer “Train the Tester” training for the Qualitative Face Fit Testing method (QLFT). A pass/fail test is used to determine the seal effectiveness of disposable masks and reusable half-masks.
This qualitative method is the most cost-effective way for organisations to face fit in-house, as the hire or purchase of a particle counting machine (which is required for the alternative quantitative method) along with other ancillary items can be prohibitively expensive.
Qualitative face fit testing training courses are suitable for those who have the responsibility of carrying out in-house qualitative face fit testing for their employees. It can also be suitable for others who are looking to begin face fitting on a commercial basis.
Our course(s) offer theoretical and practical guidance for anyone that undertakes qualitative face fit testing of disposable and reusable half mask RPE. It is also ideal preparation prior to a Fit2Fit assessment and can be tailored to suit the needs of any student.
Course(s) are delivered over a 6-hour period by an experienced Fit2Fit accredited test provider and trainer with many years of teaching experience.
Candidates are introduced to the theory behind face fit testing in the morning session, before pairing up to get practical hands-on experience with the kits and testing each other prior to carrying out theory and practical assessments.
Upon successful completion, delegates gain a certificate of achievement with a recommended refresher course, 12 months from the initial training day.
By the end of the day’s training, the candidate will:
Your colleague(s) can therefore return to the workplace and begin to implement these new skills and gain experience as a QLFT face fit tester.
We offer training on-site, so there is no need for travel, we are happy to come to you.
