In developing a Bushfire Management Plan we bring together landowners, bushfire specialists, fire agencies, communities and stakeholders to develop a common understanding of bushfire risk and determine the most appropriate strategies and actions to reduce that risk.
Working with the relevant authorities and stakeholders, our accredited bushfire planners take a risk-based approach when developing a Bushfire Management Plan (BFMP), aligning it to the Australian Standard AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines and the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Framework for Bushfire Management on Public Land (2015) guidelines.
Taking a strategic overview of the site, we select and identify bushfire management strategies that will achieve the primary objectives of the plan, and concentrate on the scheduling of treatments and mitigation activities to manage bushfire risks over the life of the plan.
Our bushfire risk assessment process determines the likelihood and consequence of a major bushfire by modelling how a bushfire may move and behave through a study area under specific conditions. In areas where unacceptable bushfire risk is identified, management strategies are used to help mitigate the risk on assets. Trade-offs between different assets are identified through the risk assessment process.
Establishing these key elements enables us to provide tailored recommendations to mitigate bushfire risk to acceptable levels.
