ACDs, previously included in Building Regulations and Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for energy performance requirements in England, Wales, and Scotland, have been removed. These standardised details were outdated and did not reflect current understanding of thermal element performance changes at junctions.
Designers now rely on default Psi-values for individual junctions, which are more pessimistic in the latest SAP and SBEM versions. This implies that significant improvements in other specification aspects may be necessary to achieve compliance.
Even with improved specifications like lower U-values, triple-glazed windows, reduced air-leakage, and MVHR units, the building would only meet the higher Target Fabric Energy Efficiency rate.
