Ealing Road is a residential building complex comprising a 14 storey tower, complemented by six lower rise buildings, overlooking the Grand Union Canal in Alperton. The project consisted of a total of 441 residential units and seven commercial units over seven blocks.
RPS was commissioned to undertake sustainability and energy assessments for the entire development. Initially, we carried out an energy report to discharge the planning conditions. Once the energy strategy was finalised, we carried out detailed energy calculations for all residential (SAP) and commercial (SBEM) units, in accordance with Building Regulations.
A Code for Sustainable Homes assessment for all residential units and a BREEAM assessment for the commercial units were carried out by RPS. We guided the design and construction team through all stages of the building construction and ensured sustainability standards were met for all units.

The planning approved Energy Strategy for Ealing Road was clear from the beginning that it was not practical and affordable for this project.
RPS’ energy report was used to successfully used to discharge the planning condition. The report demonstrated to the local authority that RPS’ approach, based on high insulation standards, communal heating from combined heat and power (CHP) and photovoltaic panels, was more appropriate for this site than the one that had originally been approved for planning.
