QHow did you get into your industry?

I knew that I wanted to do something in the sciences and geophysics sounded really cool!

QWhat are some of your career highlights?

Helping clients to integrate their geology and geophysics data to improve their decision making.

QWhy is this kind of work important? And what does it mean to you personally?

Our seismic work on potash mines has become standard practice to provide a layer of safety to mine personnel.

QWhat advice would you give to your younger self?

Speak up more, you have really good ideas!

QWhat was the best/most useful thing you did to further your career?

I approach my career development with a lot of curiosity and try to keep learning new things, be it through formal training courses, talking to co-workers or attending talks/conferences.

QThis year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Break the bias’, aiming for women’s equality and celebrating inclusivity. There seems to be is less bias than a decade ago in the energy sector. Why is this – what is this industry getting right?

In a resource-scarce world, the energy sector is continually searching for new ideas and perspectives and is obligated to operate as a meritocracy to keep advancing. It matters less these days who you are or where you came from, if you work hard and prove yourself you will excel.

QWhich woman or women inspire you?

As a kid I was always inspired by my mom. She has a fun story about pushing the envelope on women’s rights. In her 20’s she worked in a small-town office and at the time it was still customary for women to only wear dresses or skirts to work (never pants). Mom came to work one day wearing a pantsuit and convinced some of her co-workers to do the same!

QOutside of work, what do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I play board games, make art, practice the banjo and hang out with my husband and kids.
