QHow did you get into your industry?

I started as an entry-level environmental consultant at RPS over a decade ago. I fell in love with the research, writing, and travel that came with consulting, and RPS has continuously afforded me the opportunity to work on unique projects while also managing an incredible team of folks across the US.

Quick Q&A

Which woman or women inspire you?

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how appreciative and inspired I am by my mother. My father passed when I was young, and my mom worked tirelessly (as a software engineer!) to provide for our family. She taught me so much about valuing myself, being a team player, and setting and achieving my goals. She is the epitome of a hard-working woman that had to balance work and home life, and I believe she laid the groundwork for me (and generations to come) to really thrive in the workforce.

What job did you want when you were growing up?

I wanted to be an Olympic Ice Skater… The only problem was that I grew up in Florida and had never seen an ice rink or snow! As I grew older, math and science really held my interest. In college, I studied Environmental Economics and Management, which allowed me to combine my favorite subjects in a practical way.

Outside of work, what are you most proud of?

My family – I am so thankful to have such a loving and supportive husband and for my two beautiful daughters that keep me on my toes!

What do you do in your spare time?

What is spare time with two small children?? Ha! In my spare time, I enjoy eating, drinking, and laughing with my girlfriends; cheering on the UGA Bulldogs with my husband; and arts and crafts with my daughters.

QWhat was the best/most useful thing you did to further your career?

Be a part of the solutions. Plenty of people can identify the problems, but those that choose to think critically and creatively in order to solve the problems are the real MVPs.

QThis year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Break the bias’, aiming for women’s equality and celebrating inclusivity. However, there don’t seem to be barriers for women entering consulting, ecology and similar roles. Why is this – what is this industry getting right? (And what else could it do?)

I’m so grateful to be in an industry and working for a company that has so many women in leadership roles. I think this is a testament to women no longer feeling in competition with one another and being more generous with support for one another’s ideas, goals, etc.
