22.09.16

The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Greg Clark, awarded Development Consent for DONG Energy’s Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm on 16th August 2016. Hornsea Project Two will deliver up to 1.8 GW of low carbon electricity to around 1.8 million UK homes.

Hornsea Project Two comprises up to two offshore wind farms and will have a maximum of 300 turbines. The project is located approximately 90 km from the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire, 50 km from the median line between UK and Dutch waters and once constructed, will cover an area of 462 km 2 – an area five times the size of Hull.

RPS successfully led the offshore and onshore EIA to support the application for Development Consent. RPS’ involvement included infrastructure planning services for the landfall as well as alternatives assessments, negotiations with statutory and non-statutory consultees and public consultation, and completion of the Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR), Draft Environmental Assessment and Final Environmental Statement. The offshore and onshore technical consultancy provided by RPS also included the comprehensive range of marine and terrestrial, human, biological and physical environment specialist topics. During the Examination, RPS further supported DONG Energy, providing responses to the Examining Authority’s questions, additional documents and expert witnesses.
