Edward Nabbs elected Associate Member of the RTPI

21 May 2021

We are delighted to announce that Edward Nabbs was recently elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute

Edward Nabbs joined RPS on our graduate training programme in September 2017 after completing an MSci in Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia. While based in the Oxford Planning team, Edward was involved in a number of different technical disciplines including brief assignments to the Bristol and Brighton offices. Following his successful completion of the graduate scheme, he accepted a permanent position as an Assistant Planner in our Oxford office.

The bulk of Edward’s work is centred around energy infrastructure planning, mainly solar - though he feels the significant variety of projects that cross his desk certainly helps to keep things interesting. He has been involved with projects ranging all the way from ‘Nationally Significant’ energy generation plants to 5-a-side football pitches and everything in between.

Having not undertaken a planning degree, Edward knew he would have to take the Associate Membership route to chartership. This entails completing three years of professional experience, an application to achieve Associate Membership – which Edward has now completed - followed by a further two years of professional experience before being eligible for full chartership.

Edward commented: “It’s a great feeling to have a foot on the professional ladder, so to speak. The qualification gives me more confidence in my abilities as a planner as they’re now formally recognised by a professional body.”

“When I first started at RPS and got to know members of the planning team, it seemed that chartership with the RTPI was almost a staple accolade to have in the industry, so I knew I had something to aim for from the beginning.”

Simon Gamage, Senior Director – Planning in our Oxford office, added: “We were very pleased when Edd told us his application for Associate Membership had been successful. He is a hugely valued member of our team here in Oxford and across RPS. It is particularly impressive when you consider that Edd comes from a non-planning education stream and has chosen to follow this route to Chartered Membership, which I’m sure he will achieve in due course. Well done Edd!”
