Tim Ryle

Senior Ecologist

Tim leads our Ecology team in the Republic of Ireland. His strong academic background includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc(Hons)) in Botany and Geology and PhD from University College Dublin. He worked as an independent consultant before joining RPS in 2015 and has worked on a wide range of projects in various sectors and engaged with stakeholders from government departments (e.g. DCCAE; DHPLG), the public (e.g. Irish Water; EPA; NPWS; IFI) and private sectors. Currently, Dr Ryle is a guest lecturer on Habitat Ecology and conservation and EU legislation including AA processes for a Masters programme (MSc) in Applied and Environmental Sciences at University College Dublin.

Dr Ryle’s expertise includes:

  • Terrestrial surveys (Flora and Fauna)
  • Annex habitats (e.g. peatlands, uplands, woodlands, grasslands, coastal habitats)
  • On-site ecological monitoring projects for national surveys, ecological design and mitigation plans (e.g. CEMP; Green Infrastructure) and Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW).

He is an expert in Appropriate Assessment and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and has completed AA and/or EcIA for a wide range of plans/ projects/ programmes including: Local Area Plans, County Development Plans, national linear infrastructure (e.g. N2 Slane Bypass; N54), renewable energy projects (e.g. wind farms), strategic water infrastructure (e.g. WWTP, reservoirs).
