Making it easy to connect - RPS gives the PESGB access to our Learning Hub for virtual events

When RPS' training business was approached by the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB) with a request to assist them to virtually host their societies' evening lectures, they stepped up and offered their new Learning Hub LMS as the best solution.
The PESGB has been supporting and educating professionals since 1964, through a variety of conferences, field trips, newsletters and evening lectures. When the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to people attending their evening lectures in person, an alternative, secure and stable solution was needed to support hosting them virtually.
Evening lectures have been at the heart of the PESGB since its inception and they have been held monthly in both Aberdeen and London ever since. With a full and varied lecture program planned for this year, it was felt that they should continue.
Since the start of the pandemic, the PESGB has virtually hosted webinars to special interest groups using Zoom. However, this platform posed problems for people who are unable to access Zoom.
As a solution, the RPS training team were able to provide use of their integrated webinar platform, which is used to deliver training and course materials. It's the closest experience to physically attending a lecture.
“When you attend a PESGB lecture, you would enter the lecture theatre and see PESGB notices scrolling on a video loop prior to the lecture starting,” said David Offer, Vice President of the PESGB (2019-2021). “You would then watch the lecture and have the ability to ask questions etc. The service RPS has given us delivers this same experience with the added bonus of allowing slide annotation and polling of the audience to gauge opinion. The latter will be of particular importance for our AGM later in the year.”
As well as providing use of the platform, RPS staff have provided training to the lecturers on the software use and are on hand should there be any technical difficulties during the lecture.
The first PESGB evening lecture was held on the 9th of June and has received positive feedback from its members.
