RPS acted as Lead Designer for the largest traincare facility constructed in Europe, providing vital maintenance facilities for the fleet of Hitachi trains.

This world-class facility includes a five road rail maintenance building with a landmark design that houses a state of the art pit-stop type operation, an equipment drop pit and a heavy inspection road plus trainwash, shunters’, cleaners’ facilities, wheel lathe, offices and conference rooms.

RPS provided Architectural, Structural and Civil Engineering and CDM Co-ordinator services for the development.

Additional facilities include:

A 25kV test track

A bio-hazard pit for the safe removal of waste

A tandem wheel lathe

Carriage washing plants

Stabling facilities for the Class 395 unit, designed and built to UK / European safety standards in Hitachi's facility in Japan.
