RPS prepared a landscape strategy and subsequent detailed design for a new significant public open space.

Forming part of a multi-disciplinary planning and design team, RPS successfully secured planning approvals and Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) consent for the 5.4 hectare site which includes the Lower Lines Fortifications, a SAM, dating back to the Napoleonic period.

Working in collaboration with English Heritage, Medway Council and local community groups, the proposals will, for the first time provide public access to the fortifications and create a setting that enhances and promotes the enjoyment of the fortifications.

The park provides pedestrian and cycle routes, ornamental walks, grassed areas for informal recreation, Adventure play area, lookout and bridge across the Moat as well as a variety of landscape types to promote wildlife and biodiversity in the area.
