Bord Gáis Energy

RPS successfully advised Bord Gáis Energy (BGE) in the €500 million acquisition of SWS Energy, a 500 MW portfolio of wind energy projects across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

SWS Natural Resources is the second largest wind generating company in the Republic with over 200MW of existing wind farm developments and over 300MW in planning. The acquisition was the third largest corporate acquisition in the Republic of Ireland during 2009.

RPS were retained by BGE to conduct environmental, planning, civil\structural and geotechnical due diligence of the entire portfolio of seven operating sites, six construction projects and 17 projects at planning and pre-planning stages. RPS was able to deploy multidisciplinary teams across Ireland to assess the portfolio within a challenging eight week period and developed an innovative method to report the significant uncertainties surrounding the planning, environmental mitigation and geotechnical risks that were identified during the project.

Environmental & Planning Due Diligence Assessment

Environmental & Planning Due Diligence Assessment

Wolseley Group Plc

RPS acted as consultants to the Wolseley Group, in relation to environmental and planning due diligence, prior to the successful divestiture of its entire Irish hardware business, including Brooks, Heat Merchants and Tubs & Tiles.

The project included the assessment of over 100 properties across Ireland and Northern Ireland over a two month period. Working on behalf of the vendor, a detailed assessment was carried out to identify any planning or environmental liabilities associated with each property. These assessments included site visits, planning authority consultation, planning file searches, review of environmental databases, review of historic site mapping and risk assessment of the site operations.

RPS deployed multidisciplinary teams from offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast in order to successfully achieve the rapid turnaround required by the client. RPS has subsequently been retained to advise Wolseley in relation to other due diligence work internationally.
