South West Acute Hospital South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen

FCC Elliott Construction Partnership

The £267 million project, which opened in 2012, was Northern Ireland's first Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital.

The size and scale of this project redefined the provision of hospital care in the UK and Ireland and achieved new standards for hospital design and amenity. It provides all single rooms with en-suite facilities and includes an A&E Department, laboratory services, inpatient services (including critical care, major emergency surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology), as well as outpatient services.

RPS was appointed as civil and structural engineering consultants on the 380 bed acute hospital. Other integrated services include geotechnical, traffic, environmental and fire engineering.

The hospital is built on a greenfield site on the outskirts of Enniskilllen. The 67,000m2 building is spread over 4 primary storeys, a portion of which is on a sloping site comprising a semi basement. A separate employee accommodation block and dedicated energy centre were built as part of the contract.
