Alun Williams

Alun is responsible for the offshore renewables team. Over recent years Alun’s work has primarily involved acting as Project Director working on EIAs within the development phase of proposed offshore wind developments, including associated export cables and landfalls, and in consent compliance related work during the construction and operational phases of projects.

Mark Barratt

Mark is an EIA practitioner with 15 years’ experience in both consultancy and industry. In consultancy he has gained significant experience in the co-ordination of large multi-disciplinary teams delivering major infrastructure projects. In industry he has developed high value renewable energy projects in challenging consenting environments. Mark has particular experience of delivering consents for complex infrastructure projects including onshore and offshore wind farms and their electrical connections, gas storage, pipelines, airports, highways schemes and regeneration initiatives. Mark was overall RPS Project Manager for the FABLink interconnector project.

Nicola Simpson

Nicola leads the RPS Marine Ecology team. She has developed and project managed numerous marine ecology surveys, including developing and agreeing survey specifications and monitoring proposals. Nicola provides support to clients in gaining all marine consents for a wide range of developments and activities and ensuring compliance with licence conditions.

Michael Fenny

Michael is a chartered town planner who has over ten years’ experience of working in private sector planning and environmental consultancy. He is responsible for delivering development projects across a range of sectors, including renewable energy generation, waste and minerals. Michael has particular experience of project managing large, complex planning applications that have the potential for significant environmental effects. He is currently project managing two proposed solar farms which will each have a capacity of over 50 MW.

Richard Turner

Richard is a Chartered Town Planner with experience across the UK and internationally. Richard has strong project management and consenting experience having been responsible for several major residential, leisure, and energy projects. He holds a number of years’ public sector experience as a Development Management Officer and has obtained international planning and community engagement experience working in Australia for three years on a major federal government infrastructure project.

Dr Adam Payne

Adam started his career as a fisheries consultant providing management advice to governments and private clients. He later took on technical and project management roles in charge of several EIAs and ESIAs for the oil and gas, renewables and other marine industries. Today he is a Principal Consultant and provides both technical fisheries and project management roles for offshore wind and marine renewables (wave and tidal) projects.

Vicky Philips

Victoria has over 10 years’ experience in the UXO industry. Within the Explosives Engineering Services Victoria’s responsibilities include the management of Survey & Marine UXO project operations. Victoria project manages all marine near shore and offshore UXO project operations and consultancy with experience in the Caspian Sea, the Gulf of Papua and the Mediterranean, further including projects within the Thames, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. She spent 2 years managing the SOC Iraqi Crude Export Pipeline Project on behalf of Foster Wheeler and South Oil Company. This involved the complete project management of a number of contractors to clear over 900 potential UXO items in the North Arabian Gulf. Since this time Vicky has managed numerous UXO assessment and mitigation projects providing UXO consultancy to numerous Energy concerns globally, including Tennet, Energinet, BP, Shell and Exxon Mobil.

Michael Shaw

Michael has 29 years’ experience of structural design encompassing commercial, retail, leisure, industrial and residential developments within both the public and private sector. He is a fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers as well as a chartered member of The Institution of Civil Engineers and holds an MBA from Queens University. As well as being Past Chairman of the IStructE Northern Region, he continues to play an active role in institution affairs.

Don McQuillan

Don has 42 years’ experience, including 28 years at Director level, and has spent the last 16 years spearheading RPS’ acute and primary healthcare projects some of which have been procured within PFI/PPP frameworks. He is also responsible for many iconic buildings, some of which have been PPP procured, and specialises in the in-house coordination of multi-disciplinary input to projects and for sustainable design. He now specialises in forensic engineering and providing expert witness advice to clients. He is currently Vice President of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Barry McAllister

Barry has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry and has managed a wide range of high profile complex projects including most recently a number of new leisure centres for various councils. He has experience in all forms of procurement including traditional design team appointments, design and build and PFI/PPP. Barry has a particular expertise in the healthcare sector including working on projects on live operational healthcare sites. This experience has allowed Barry to become familiar with the bespoke issues presented in healthcare buildings. Barry is also a chartered Fire Engineer and is a part time lecturer at the University of Ulster in Fire Engineering as well as an advisor to a number of Building Control Authorities on Fire Safety matters. He is a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers Fire Engineering Study Group and has been a guest speaker at conferences and seminars on Fire Engineering.

Over the last 8 years Stephen has overseen the development and growth of the geomatics department, securing strategic long term framework agreements and ensuring that the geomatics department maintains its professional expertise and membership of The Survey Association (TSA).

He also has significant experience in the preparation of successful planning appeals. Michael has recently returned from a six month period of secondment to the Scottish Government as part of a team taking forward recommendations on planning reform in Scotland.

Simon Zisman

Simon has over 25 years’ experience in the environmental sector, working for consultancy and conservation bodies in Scotland, England and overseas. Simon’s specialist expertise covers ornithology, conservation legislation, Habitats Regulation Assessment, mitigation of ecological impacts and habitat management. He has written, contributed to, or reviewed dozens of ornithology and ecology EIA chapters for a wide range of projects, including on and offshore windfarms, tidal arrays, open cast coal mines, multi-use commercial developments and afforestation projects. He has provided expert witness inputs on ornithological issues in support of windfarm and waste water treatment developments and has secured resolution of highly complex ornithological issues for a wide range of clients and projects.
