RPS was engaged to monitor historic heritage values for geotechnical purposes in case of impact to nearby and suspected subsurface heritage items during subsurface drilling works. The proposed boreholes were in proximity to an item, a tunnel, which is part NSW State Heritage listed Shepherds Hill Defence Group Military Installations.
The works required the placement of five boreholes over a distance of 180 metres. The boreholes, 120mm in diameter and 25 metres deep, were bored by a small all-purpose walking drill rig. RPS integrated into the RMS drilling team over several days to monitor geotechnical borehole drilling and examine soil cores as they were extracted and complete soil logging records in relation to historic heritage values.
