Port Botany is one of Australia’s most important ports, handling one third of the nation’s container traffic. With the projected growth in future trade, it is expected to reach capacity around 2010.
The Port Botany expansion involved the development of port facilities including the reclamation of approximately 60 hectares of land to develop five new berths and an additional container terminal area.
RPS successfully managed the community and stakeholder consultation for the environmental approvals for the proposed expansion. The comprehensive process that was undertaken protected the corporate reputation of the Sydney Ports Corporation.
On 14 October 2005, following a period of assessment and a Commission of Inquiry, the development was approved in two stages.
