Collinsville Solar Project, North Queensland

With an average of 300 days of sunshine per year and more than $1 billion of pre-existing electrical transmission infrastructure, the township of Collinsville in North Queensland is a prime location for large-scale renewable solar energy installations.

Since 2012, RPS has been engaged by independent power producer RATCH to provide lead consultancy services for a new 42 MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant at Collinsville, which has recently received federal funding support.

Our team provided initial planning services and environmental advice on the reuse of Collinsville’s existing power station site (formerly a coal fired plant), and has provided technical advice to RATCH on the best positioning for the PV panel arrangement to maximise yield while minimising environmental impacts.

RPS has prepared and completed all planning and environmental approvals for the 205 hectare site, undertaking an in-depth Visual Impact Assessment and
survey / land titling for future leases.

Our team has also assisted RATCH to secure $9.5 million in funding for the project under the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)’s large scale
solar round
in 2016.
