This is a growing area of expertise. The technologies that have been covered include: biomass based upon wood dust and MDF dust fired combined heat and power (CHP); biofuels; and land fill gas fired CHP. Increasingly clients, confronted with rapidly escalating electricity and carbon fuel costs, are looking to improve the sustainability of their business through the use of alternative fuels generated within an industrial process or as a result of waste disposal. Frequently these fuels can be refined and produced as a by-product and utilised on site to offset the purchase of primary fuels in the generation of heat and electricity. The economics of this is complex and is driven by legislation and tax incentives. RPS provides guidance to clients in the overall cost efficiency of energy from waste schemes.
