RPS uses Geographical Information Systems (GIS) capabilities of database management and graphics as a powerful 2D and 3D analytical tool to capture, store, manage, analyse and present data. The short time spent interpreting complex spatial situations increases the prospects for highlighting development opportunities. It is used in a wide variety of projects throughout RPS for example for advice, water management, ecology, planning, surveying, visualisation, map making and research. In The Netherlands RPS has developed GIS software, applications and communications (internet GIS: http://portal.ingbcc.nl/), and provides training courses and educational material.
