The Toxicology Expertise Group (RPS-TOX) provides advisory services in toxicological risk and chemicals management. Projects are carried out for international organisations, public and private sector clients. In The Netherlands activities are strongly linked to the RPS Occupational Health and Safety Laboratory, including the monitoring of chemical substances in the workplace and its subsequent risk evaluation. International projects mainly refer to specific advisory services to the European Commission, UN and WHO in the field of human health and environmental risk assessment of chemicals considered of high concern.Within the latter framework training and institutional strengthening is provided to new EU member states and EU candidate countries. In these countries assistance is given to central government, inspectorates and industries in implementing EU chemicals legislation (including REACH) and chemicals related environmental legislation (EIA, IPPC, SEVESO and EMAS). In the UK RPS provides support to the inorganic, organic, fine chemical and pharmaceutical sectors on legislative compliance (ATEX/DSEAR, COMAH, PPC, COSHH) and performance improvement.
