The Vodafone office project involves the relocation of company offices in and around Stoke into one single 'superoffice' to be based at Etruria Valley near the centre of Stoke On Trent.
It is the concept of RPS' architects in Birmingham as a building to house two large open plan double height workspaces for a total of 850 people along with ancillary training and meeting accommodation. It will incorporate full backup facilities for staff including a 300 person Cafeteria.
The building -as long as a T42 Naval Destroyer, is a landmark building for Etruria and is part of the next generation of workspace design from RPS.
RPS' acoustics team in Brighton provided acoustic advice to meet the challenging requirements of good speech intelligibility in large open plan spaces. By working together at an early stage in the project, RPS architects and acoustics consultants were able to improve the acoustic performance of the building shell and reduce the amount of additional acoustic treatment required at the fit-out stage.
The building features the latest locally controlled displacement air vent technology and state of the art daylight controlled lighting. It will also incorporate various sustainable design initiatives including rainwater recycling and a Quiet Revolution axial wind turbine strategically placed at the head elevation of the scheme.

As with recent previous projects this building has been designed using 3 dimensional modelling software from day one which enabled Vodafone to fully understand how their complicated brief translated into the finished design (and saved several months of design debate which would have been a possible outcome of purely using 2D techniques).
The building is approximately 94,500 square feet in size and is formed by a wing shaped roof spanning 45m in a single sweep and it is 140m long with car parking provided for 420 people.
The project is due on site early next year and is due for completion and occupation by March 2009.
