Limerick Tunnel
The Tunnel is being pre-cast in five sections in a 600m casting basin on the North side of the River Shannon at Coonagh West. In 2009 a channel will be dredged across the bed of the Shannon. The casting basin will then be flooded, allowing the tunnel elements to be floated out into the river and immersed into the prepared channel.
The Limerick Tunnel Project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Scheme and RPS, in a joint venture with COWI, has been client’s consultant since 1999 for the constraints, route selection, preliminary design, specimen design, contract documentation, procurement, planning and advice process – as well as the project management for the clients, Limerick County Council and the National Roads Authority.
RPS in its Joint Venture is currently Client’s Representative for the construction phase of the project scheduled for completion in 2010.
