EPA National Groundwater Monitoring
RPS Group Ireland were awarded a national groundwater monitoring project for the Irish EPA during July 2007 over a framework period of three years. RPS is leading a highly qualified and experienced team in undertaking the sampling and analysis of groundwater at selected sites in the Republic of Ireland for the purposes of the Water Framework Directive on behalf of the Office of Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Water Framework Directive’s objectives can be summarised as maintaining “high status” of waters where it exists; preventing any deterioration in the existing status of waters; and achieving at least “good status” in all waters by 2015.
The EPA Water Framework Directive Monitoring Programme published in October 2006 determined a Groundwater Monitoring Programme to enable assessment of the chemical status of groundwaters in order to meet the objectives of the Water Framework Directive.
