District heating is a mature technology, which delivers low-cost heat, in the form of hot water, to consumers as a utility service.
The heat is produced by combined heat and power plant (cogeneration) where electricity is also generated. This is fed into the supply grid, thus boosting the overall efficiency of the scheme.
