Market Development Group for Waste Resources
In mid 2006, RPS were engaged by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government/Enterprise Ireland sponsored Market Development Group, to draw up a comprehensive multi-annual programme to address barriers to indigenous recycling in Ireland and help create new markets for secondary materials.
The project provided an opportunity for RPS to use our wide-ranging experience in waste management to deliver a nationally important programme and develop our fledgling recycling markets.
Presently Ireland’s recycling industry is significantly dependent on foreign markets and infrastructure. The extent of this dependency is clear in the EPA National Waste Database Report 2005, which reports that in 2005 Ireland exported 83% of its recyclable waste materials.
