Project Unity comprises the merger of the University of Manchester and UMIST to form one of the largest Universities in Europe. The merger creates circa £400m of construction activity on the campus and RPS Gregory have been appointed as Mechanical and Electrical Framework Consultant to assist in the delivery of this project over the next 4 years.

The new Universities flagship building known as SCAN (Student Centre & Nursing) is the firm’s first appointment under the Framework and comprises a new build landmark building to house a number of academic and ancillary functions including 90,000 sq.ft. School of Nursing; 70,000 sq.ft. Faculty of Medicine 1000 Seat Lecture Theatre and Conference Facility; 120,000 sq.ft. General Teaching Block; 50,000 sq.ft. Student Services and Administration Block. Canteen / Refectory / Kitchens and 300 Student Beds.

The project involved RPS Gregory working closely with the architects to develop a building form that will wherever possible, promote passively engineered solutions to environmental control and occupier comfort in line with the new Universities policy to reduce energy consumption across the Campus.
