Legionella Risk Assessment
The most critical element in controlling the risk posed by legionella bacteria is the undertaking of a risk assessment. The assessment identifies which water systems pose a risk and its findings will determine the scope of the legionella management plan. In keeping with all other areas of health and safety legislation, the risk assessment must be the first task to be completed
You must have a current legionella risk assessment for your premises in order to comply with the Health & Safety Executive's 'Legionnaires' disease; The control of the legionella bacteria in water systems, 2001'. The risk assessment must be reviewed at least every two years. This may be sooner if there are changes to a water system, or if results of checks show that that control measures are no longer effective or there is a case of Legionnaires’ disease associated with the system.
The legionella risk assessment should be undertaken by an organisation who is independent of other contractors that may be providing water treatment services or ongoing maintenance of water systems.
RPS can provide an independent legionella risk assessment and meet with you on site to discuss and review our findings. We will provide a comprehensive and easy to understand report, specific to your premises. The report will include an action plan with clear itemisation of the priorities to help you implement the recommendations and demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the relevant legislation.
