Sedimentologists at RPS Energy cover the spectrum of siliciclastic and carbonate rocks and have experience of hydrocarbon plays across the globe, but areas of expertise include the UK Continental Shelf, North Africa, East Africa and the Indian Sub-Continent. Purely sedimentological studies are still an important aspect of our workflow, though increasingly our findings form part of larger integrated studies within RPS, with significant overlaps with biostratigraphy, exploration geophysics, reservoir modelling and petrophysics.

What we provide

Detailed sedimentological logging and interpretation of cores and outcrops

Integration with wire line logs and borehole image logs to produce a sedimentological interpretation

Comparison with modern day analogues to suggest probable sand body dimensions

Petrographic analysis using a number of techniques, but concentrating on thin section microscopy, X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

Assessment of controls on porosity and permeability of reservoir rocks

Input to slope stability and site investigation studies, often in conjunction with biostratigraphic analysis
