RPS in Ireland

Appropriate Assessment

An appropriate assessment (AA) is required under the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) for any plan or project likely to have a significant effect on European sites designated for nature conservation. AA is a key issue in Ireland today due to the increasing focus on implementation of the Habitats Directive by the EU and the protection of unique Irish habitats such as blanket bogs and wetlands.

RPS has successfully navigated projects through the AA process at both the plan and project levels, drawing on our range of in-house capabilities and our existing relationships with the regulatory authorities, to provide integrated and focused assessments, which meet the stringent requirements of the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA).
