RPS Britain Planning & Development

Waste

RPS delivers complete waste solutions by providing industry-leading expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment and approvals; IPPC permitting and in-depth understanding of waste management processes; and cutting edge architectural and engineering design, to ensure planning is achieved and technology is incorporated efficiently. This combination of technical skills translates into cost-effective schemes which satisfy commercial, safety and operational requirements and address the challenges of legislative change and commercial opportunity.

From developing regional strategies, site search and selection, sustainable energy infrastructure development, to the design of the facilities themselves, our integrated, multidisciplinary teams solve the problems faced by private, corporate and public sector clients.

Current work includes waste strategies for a number of county councils and designing facilities for PFI bids for mechanical biological treatment, energy from waste, gasification and material recycling facilities for United Utilities, Covanta, Viridor, Veolia, MVV, Sita, Donarbon and WRG. We are also designing Household Waste Recycling facilities and Waste Transfer Stations. We have recently achieved planning approvals for energy from waste facilities for Viridor in Exeter, and are nearing completion of a large MBT plant for Donarbon in Cambridge, which won the RTPI planning award for climate change.
