In January 2005, RPS were engaged to undertake the mechanical and electrical engineering services of the new global headquarters of Icon Plc. The new 11,000sq.m office development with a project capital value of €45 million supports administration, marketing and research functions with ancillary services.
Icon Plc and its subsidiary Icon Clinical Research Limited are the parent and operating company respectively of a contract research organisation providing clinical research and development services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Icon specialises in the management, execution and analysis of clinical trials in most major therapeutic areas.
This development comprises the construction of four 4-storey office blocks linked by a glass atrium to the existing headquarter building on a site of 1.83 hectares, and including 338 car spaces. The completed development covers an area of approx.15,868 sq.m.
The office blocks are connected to a main concourse, which has a fully glazed roof and is connected to the existing building for almost its full length and this concourse is the primary organising element of circulation linking all the buildings and forming the heart of the complex. To enhance this area as the heart of the building, the cafeteria is located at ground floor level in Block B.
The new Global Headquarters affords panoramic views of the Dublin Mountains to the South, Leopardstown Racecourse to the East, wooded outer suburbia to the North, and the wooded lands of the Business Park and the grounds of Leopardstown Hospital to the West.
The new development was constructed to the highest modern standards and was completed in September 2008.
