Bell Developments

RPS provided a full range of Mechanical and Electrical designs for this student accommodation development.

RPS has been involved in setting out design strategies, developing detailed drawings for costing, liaising with utility providers, and issuing proposals to planning authorities.

Chester Student village is a proposed development comprising 2,300 student accommodation units, a Hub building with sports and social facilities, and also external MUGA pitches.

The project will have two large CHP units which will contribute approximately a quarter of the electrical load at peak times, and will feed back in to the electrical network at off peak times.

An in-depth infrastructure package has been developed including a private HV network around the site and liaison with Scottish Power the local network operator.

The scheme has been developed to meet a BREEAM 'excellent' rating.


Luneside, Lancaster Luneside, Lancaster


RPS provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services for this mixed-use development, providing some 180,000ft2 of Offices, Retail space and in Residential units.

The exploratory works have included below ground sub scan survey and procuring trial pits to establish depth of services.

The design solution has demanded that all three differing functions can be met without compromising the operational requirements and different environment that each demise has. To achieve this, the café bar and the office plant have been carefully selected to ensure that excessive noise is not generated with particular consideration of the top floors residential units.

The metering strategy has also dictated the services strategy in many ways and the principle has provided a balance to ensure that the utility services can achieve regular meter reading but at the same time remote on each floor this having less impact of net lettable space.
