Dublin District Heating Project
RPS is currently designing a district heating network at the Spencer Dock development in Dublin’s docklands on behalf of Dublin City Council and is also completing an expanded feasibility study for a city-wide network partly funded by Sustainable Energy Ireland.
The replacement of traditional individual heating systems by district heating networks will help Ireland meet its Kyoto Protocol commitment to limit greenhouse gas emissions. RPS completed an initial feasibility study of district heating in the Dublin Docklands Area in 2002. Currently RPS are undertaking a study focusing on developers and developments and on the best way to implement district heating in Dublin.
The project will deliver a clear picture of where target areas for district heating are and who the main players are. A model of how the district heating network could operate will also be prepared.
This will form the basis for how the emerging utility can be run to best effect. There is a strong emphasis on consumer satisfaction and quality of service. Eventually a district heating service provider may be appointed to run the system following a tendering process.
