Sustainability and Quality
The processes of planning, designing and constructing buildings and built infrastructure are changing rapidly. Increasing emphasis on issues such as climate change, energy conservation and environmental sustainability are fundamentally affecting the way we approach them. These issues have major implications at all stages of the overall development process, from project inception to the on-going management and maintenance of a completed scheme.
The need to improve the quality of built form and spaces and the information against which proposals are justified is more and more evident. Primary and secondary legislation, new regulatory measures and policy advice are constantly raising the bar in these areas. Society as a whole also increasingly demands higher standards in relation to living and working environments, the way we move around and our interaction with the natural world.
