EIA for Kildare Route Project
RPS in association with Corus Rail Consultancy, prepared an Environmental Impact Statement on behalf of Iarnród Éireann, for the development of the Kildare Route Project (KRP).
The project extends the number of rail lines from a two to three track system between Inchicore and Cherry Orchard, and to a four-track system from Cherry Orchard to just beyond Hazelhatch station.
Specific works included the reconstruction of up to 20 overbridges, including associated embankments and highways along the route, the provision of new stations at Fonthill Road and Adamstown, the removal of a station at Cherry Orchard, and refurbishment and extension of existing stations, at Hazelhatch, Sallins, Newbridge and Kildare.
A key issue for the Environmental Impact Statement was the development of a construction strategy and identification of construction landtake, all to ensure that the project works could be completed without compromising the capability of the rail network to remain operational.
