RPS is at the forefront of energy auditing and energy management systems integration in Ireland.

RPS have a dedicated team of qualified Energy Auditors, who have completed a wide range of energy audits and achieved substantial cost and energy savings for our clients. Following an Energy Audit, our consultants assist clients with implementation of audit recommendations and energy management systems, as well as providing ongoing performance monitoring. We develop and implement structured systems for large energy users and multinational clients, ensuring best practice energy and CO2 emissions management.

We are involved in a number of energy steering groups and technology working groups on behalf of SEAI and the Carbon Trust in such areas as refrigeration, HVAC and energy efficient design.

RPS offers consultation and advice on energy management systems and has advised a variety of sectors on the installation and subsequent operation of I.S. 393. (2005) and Large Industry Energy Networks (LIEN). We are heavily involved in the development of I.S 393. (2005), the national energy management standard. RPS staff are part of the Irish delegation in the development of equivalent European energy management standards and in the production of a European best practice guide for energy auditing.

RPS has shown diversification in our approach to business, working across a wide range of sectors with a broad range of capabilities including:

Energy management system development and support

Renewable energy feasibility studies

Industry benchmarking methodologies on behalf of SEI

Implementation of tailor-made energy awareness campaigns for clients

Building simulation modelling

Energy efficient design and resource efficient design solutions for industry

Performance monitoring

Grid Link

RPS is providing planning, engineering, environmental and communications consultancy services for EirGrid’s Grid Link Electricity Transmission project.

The Grid Link Project is the single largest project within Grid25, EirGrid’s development strategy, and consists of a new 400 kV transmission circuit between Dublin and Cork via Wexford. The estimated €500 million project will reinforce the transmission network in the south and east of Ireland to meet the future electricity needs of the region and it will facilitate further electricity interconnection with the European grid.

RPS is responsible for securing all necessary consents to facilitate construction of the 400 kV circuit and the associated infrastructure. The team ensures that all works are carried out in a safe, secure, reliable, economical, efficient and environmentally sensitive manner and engage pro-actively and constructively with stakeholders throughout. The anticipated timeframe for the project will see the submission of a planning application to An Bord Pleanála in mid 2016.

SLES Study ISLES Study

Scottish Government, in partnership with Irish Government (DCENR), Northern Irish Executive (DETINI).

RPS led the international consultancy team for the Irish Scottish Links Energy Study (ISLES) on behalf of the Scottish, Ireland and Northern Ireland Governments.

The 18-month study examined the potential to connect wind, wave and tidal-energy sites located over a large geographical area and examined aspects such as planning, environment, technology, regulatory, finance and construction. The study found that a subsea grid connecting Scottish, Irish and Northern Irish offshore renewable sites is feasible.

The project has been awarded the 2010 European Structural Funds Best Practice Award for ‘Best Partnership’ working in the use of European Structural Funds.

Stewart (on behalf of the OPW)

RPS has achieved LEED Gold Certification for the new 4,900m2 Department of Justice & Equality offices in Tipperary Town.

RPS was appointed in 2010 by Stewart and the OPW to act as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consultant for the project.

Our role on this project was to ensure that the development was specified according to the sustainability principles of the LEED certification system and that design and construction met the requirements of the LEED rating system to achieve the target of LEED Gold. This involved input to design team meetings and coordinating all of the stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the appropriate drawings and documents for review by the USGBC.

RPS’ experience in sustainable design, including waste prevention, minimisation and management and energy efficiency has proved hugely beneficial in the LEED process.
