Noise and Vibration Assessment

Employee exposure to noise and vibration occurs in many industrial sectors ranging from factories to construction and demolition sites. Current legislation places specific responsibilities on employers to assess the risks and to prevent or minimise any exposure.

The regulations require that a risk assessment is undertaken to identify sources of exposure, identify affected persons, evaluate effectiveness of existing control measures and determine any improvements or additional controls resulting in the preparation of an action plan to assist with compliance.

Occupational exposure to noise affects approximately 1 million employees who are at risk of noise induced hearing loss. Exposure to vibration, and in particular hand arm vibration, affects around 5 million workers, with about 2 million considered to be at high risk of developing Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).

RPS have qualified and competent consultants to undertake work place noise and vibration surveys and assessments. We can also provide comprehensive environmental noise assessments in accordance with BS4142, which may be required as part of an IPPC application or to investigate the potential for noise complaints from industrial processes.
