Local Exhaust Ventilation

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems are employed as a common engineering control within most industries, to minimise the amount of harmful substances released into the workplace atmosphere.

LEV systems are predominantly used to protect the workforce at the source of the contaminant. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 require that all control systems, including LEV, are tested by a competent person and inspected at least once every 14 months (or more frequently for some installations and processes).

It is the employer’s responsibility to conduct regular inspection of systems to check for blockages and leaks, which will diminish the efficiency. RPS adopts a thorough and comprehensive testing specification to determine effective operation of the system in accordance with specified parameters. Our approach with technical assessments is to measure system performance and subjectively evaluate the level of control provided, with reports providing detailed, practical recommendations, as appropriate.
