RPS in Canada

Drilling & Completions

RPS has extensive experience of complex, offshore and deepwater well construction. Areas of expertise include the deepwater of the Gulf of Mexico, the East Coast of Canada, the Canadian Arctic, and many international locations. In particular, RPS has significant expertise in the design of HPHT wells; in the design of wells for thermal service, such as SAGD or CSS; and in under-balance drilling techniques. Typical examples include:

Design of deep, high rate and HTHP wells and completions, both onshore and offshore with BHT’s up to 475°F, and BHP’s up to 21,000 psi. Projects included the need for full well design, material specifications and equipment selection.

Design of production and water injection wells in water depths up to 4,400 ft, and well depths up to 30,000 ft TVD. Significant issues included sub-salt well design, trapped annulus pressure mitigation, and the use of vacuum insulated tubing and insulating packer fluids.

Development of planning and operational procedures for drilling into a live steam chamber associated with a heavy oil thermal project.

Assessment of the risks and mitigation requirements associated with the regulatory requirement for a same season relief well capability for offshore drilling in the Canadian Arctic
