RPS was engaged to undertake the Definition Phase Water Engineering for the Olympic Dam (Project 1) Expansion for BHP Billiton. The design team was based in Adelaide and included resources from RPS’ Adelaide and Perth operations.
The scope of work delivered included:
Safety reviews including HAZID, HAZOPS and HAZCON
Basis of design studies including materials selection for hyper-saline groundwater conditions
Detailed design of groundwater pumps and bore headworks
Detailed design of saline water pipelines and storage dams
Detailed design of Managed Aquifer Recharge system. Detailed design of various water supply systems to support mining (dust suppression water supplies)
Haul road crossing designs
Control philosophy documents
Scope of works documents and technical specifications
Project Capital estimates DFS (+/- 10%) accuracy
Project and resource scheduling for procurement and construction activities
Tender pricing and technical suitability reviews
Construction (technical) and commissioning support
Detailed design of stormwater dewatering system for 100 yr ARI (72 hr) storm event
Drawings including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Layout plans, Engineering Detail plans and Electrical and Communications Plans.
