RPS has assisted Timber Tots Child Care to plan and deliver a striking new long day care facility in the suburb of Camp Hill in Brisbane’s inner south-east.
Planning is child's play for RPS
Engaged as the statutory planning consultant for the project, RPS’ Urban Planning team worked closely with Timber Tots, Brisbane City Council and the local community to achieve support and approval for the 1,000m2+ development, constructed over two levels above basement level car parking.
The team took a lead role in developing the consultation strategy necessary to secure statutory approval for the Centre, working closely with the client, design team and local stakeholders to ensure great urban design outcomes were achieved.
Kids space in keeping with local character
Given the site’s low-density residential setting with frontage to local parkland, the RPS team’s expertise in facilitating stakeholder consultation and collaboration was critical to resolving logistical considerations such as traffic and parking flows and flood mitigation.
The result is a building with positioning, aspect and structure that ensures natural light penetrates into indoor learning spaces, while remaining in keeping with the relaxed, residential context of the street and adjacent park.
The design also takes cues from the site’s history as a timber yard, with reclaimed wood featured extensively across the building’s façade and outdoor play equipment.
Timber Tots Child Care Centre is now complete and commenced operations in October 2016.
