The North West Rail Link is an $8.3 billion priority rail infrastructure project for the NSW Government. RPS was engaged via Baulderstone to provide cultural heritage services to Transport for NSW for the early works component of the North West Rail Link (NWRL).
The NWRL project will deliver a new 36 kilometre long rapid transit rail link between Chatswood on Sydney’s north shore and the growing Hills district in the North West of Sydney. The Early Works package was a critical part of the broader North West Rail Link project, which represented a considerable step in delivering an improved public transport system as part of Sydney’s Rail Future.
RPS reviewed the Cultural Heritage Management Plan, excavation methodologies and liaised with State regulators to ensure the smooth passage of the proposed works at three separate locations. Work included archaeological excavation alongside the local Aboriginal community, logistical co-ordination to stay ahead of construction timetables and subsequent reporting to best practice standards.
